Our weekend in Ottawa started off with a very early start, but once we had some coffee in us, we were good to go!
Watching the sun rise on a beautiful Thursday morning made us see the bright side, at least we didn't have to endure the usual morning rush hour in the Greater Toronto Area. We rode comfortably this time (unlike the "clown car" trip to Ottawa), thanks to Dan for letting us use his spacious minivan.
We arrived in Ottawa with plenty of time to spare, and luckily, the good folks at the hotel allowed us to check into our hotel rooms early.
We then headed over to the World Exchange Plaza in the heart of downtown Ottawa for an outdoor lunch time performance in the courtyard. But before the show, we got to see a natural side of Ottawa that was both surprising and terrifying...well at least for me!
I was standing around, just minding my own business, when all of a sudden a bird flew right into me and got caught in my sweater. I freaked out and the bird untangled itself and flew away. When I realized that the bird was gone, Dan pointed out that it wasn't a bird after all...it was a BAT!! In broad daylight!
The bat continued to fly low around us for about 10mins after the "incident". Needless to say, I was cowering away every time it came near. I may never be the same around low flying objects again.
On a brighter note, a few minutes later we saw a rabbit come right up to our stage area and hang out for a while. We found this a bit odd considering we were right in downtown Ottawa. We thought it might stay for the show, but it ended up scurrying off into the bushes.
Later that night came the ‘sweetest’ part of the whole weekend...I got to sneak in a nice dinner date with an old high school friend of mine. To top it all off, after dinner we walked over to the Sugar Mountain candy store to peruse all of the sweet temptations! Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I couldn’t possibly walk past the store without buying something. I have a weakness for sugar!
On the walk back to the hotel, Jo3 and I came across a fine looking Gelato place that caught our eye from a mile away...the Nutella was calling his name!
Since we had Friday afternoon off before our show at the Rideau Carleton Raceway Casino, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to get outside and see some of the sights of our capital city. I went for a little walk and found a nice shady spot to relax for a few minutes at a park off of Elgin St. Here are a few photos I snapped while I was there.
Later that afternoon, Jo3 and I found this neat looking fence on a side street near our hotel. We just had to get a picture of it!
All in all, a fun-filled weekend in Ottawa! We really enjoyed seeing some new faces, as well as some familiar faces at the Rideau Carleton Raceway Casino on Friday and Saturday night. Rumour has it that we’ll be back to the fine city of Ottawa again during the Christmas season. See you in a few months!
